The course deals with the methods of using scientific and mathematical principles to solve problems that confront society. It is designed to make the student aware of changes in technology that can affect peoples’ lifestyles and their health. Moreover, it focuses on the individual’s ability to complete more tasks in less time and with less energy.
Every participant in this course will read on the following:
1. Philosophy of Design and Technology.
2. Activities of Technology (i.e. manufacturing, construction, transportation, communication, bio-related technologies).
3. Types of Industry (i.e. primary, secondary and tertiary).
4. Labour-Intensive and Automated Production Industries.
5. Effects of Ergonomics, materials and safety on society.
6. Environmental Pollution: Kinds (i.e. Air, water, soil and noise, social media).
7. Controlling Pollution.
8. The Energy Crisis.
